ND filters (ND = Neutral Density) are for darkening the image evenly and neutrally. Their function is similar to the way sunglasses work for our eyes. Neutral means that there are no changes to the image, either in terms of colour, sharpness, contrast or brilliance.

However, depending on the ambient light and the desired image effect, different demands are made on a ND filter: a high neutral density is necessary for particularly long exposure times, while shots with an open aperture do not need such a marked reduction in light. The solution is a filter that combines all the requirements.

DIGILINE SLIM VARIABLE ND2-400 FILTERS

With the variable DÖRR Digiline Slim ND2-400 filter you can reduce the amount of incident light and react flexibly to all subject situations without having to constantly change the filter. The rotatable filter front allows you to quickly select the required density level. The variable DÖRR filter is also recommended for recording videos in changing ambient light conditions and for a variable field depth during filming.

EXPOSURE TIME

The variable ND filter extends the exposure time continuously by a factor of 2x up to 400x. This corresponds to an EV or aperture setting of 1 up to 8.5 stops. If, for example, 1/125s is required for correct exposure under the existing lighting conditions, you can extend the exposure time to a length of 1/60s to 3 seconds with the ND2-400x filter. Or you can open the aperture from 22, for example, down to 16 to 1.2, even if there is strong ambient light.

OPTICAL GLASS + FLAT FILTER MOUNT

The high-quality optical glass and high quality production standards of the Digiline filter series enable excellent image quality with optimum contrast and high colour brilliance even at wide apertures.

The particularly flat slim filter mount avoids vignetting when you use the filter with wide-angle lenses. The black frame prevents reflections and ghost images.

The filter has a front thread for use with additional accessories.

WHAT SUBJECTS IS THE FILTER SUITABLE FOR?

✓ When you want to create open aperture shots or films for image design reasons, despite the sun and bright ambient light, without your camera reaching the limits of the exposure times or the shots being overexposed. This provides a shallow depth of field with a beautiful bokeh effect (background blur), which is especially important for portraits.

✓ When you want to create a shot or film with significantly longer exposure times for image design reasons, despite the strong sun and bright ambient light. For example, you can use a suitably long exposure time to make flowing waters look dynamically blurred or people disappear from a busy square.

✓ When you want to open the aperture further for creative reasons when shooting in a photo studio with too much flash output.

AVAILABLE DIAMETERS

The DÖRR Digiline Slim Variable ND2-400 filters are available in diameters from 49 mm to 95 mm. The sizes 49 mm to 72 mm are supplied in a filter box. The sizes 77 mm to 95 mm come with a practical filter bag.
